‘SILLY POINT’ ON SAHARA SAMAY

New Delhi , March 24, 2007 : Silly Point is the flagship cricket show beamed on Sahara Samay Network. It has become synonymous with the Network for it came into being with the launch of the Network early 2003.

The show connects million and million of crickets lovers in the sub-continent to their favorite game. It is 60-minute of riveting television in which cricket experts play no holds barred: livening the studio with their high anecdotal value from those who have seen it all and played it all. Silly Point expert star cast includes former greats like Bishen Singh Bedi and Javagal Srinath.

Owing to the ever-growing popularity of the cricket show, rival news networks have coined shows using ‘Silly Point’ as the title of their cricket shows. Both Star News and India TV have launched cricket shows with the same title to capture in the popularity of the brand during the ongoing World Cup.

Both these channels have set up separate shows with the same name tweaking the format to justify their use of the title that does not belong to them. While ‘Silly Point’ on Sahara Samay Network is a serious show right from its inception, the latest versions are based on the satire and spoof on cricket.

According to Mr. Prabhat Dabral, Vice President, Sahara News Network, “It is sad that other networks have chosen to use the little when it has alredy been in the public view for such a long time on our network.”

Mr. Dabral argued “The copyright issue was not the most important issue in the case, the most important issue here is of the professional ethics. Picking up a title that is already in use on a network is in bad taste”.
